FBR POS Integration for Restaurants: Complete Guide
RestroAI by Taiz · · 8 min read
Restaurant owners in Pakistan keep hearing that their POS must be "integrated with FBR". The phrase covers more than one rule and more than one authority, and the details change. This guide explains the idea in plain language, shows who deals with whom, and lists the general steps. It does not state rates, penalties or deadlines, because those are set by the authorities and can change: confirm every specific with FBR, your provincial authority or a tax adviser. We also say clearly what RestroAI by Taiz does today, which includes what it does not do yet.
What FBR POS integration is
FBR is the Federal Board of Revenue. Under its rules for Tier-1 retailers, the point-of-sale system is connected to FBR so that each sale is reported as an invoice in real time. The invoice gets a number issued through the integration, and the printed receipt carries that invoice number and a QR code a customer can scan to check the invoice.
In practice, three things come together: your POS software, an integration with FBR's system (usually through a licensed integrator or a software vendor that holds the integration), and the receipt your customer receives. The point of the scheme is that the tax authority sees sales as they happen, rather than from a monthly return alone.
This guide is general information, not tax advice. Rules, categories and dates are set by FBR and the provincial authorities and can change. Confirm what applies to your business with the authority or a tax adviser.
Who it applies to
The FBR Tier-1 retailer rules are written around retailers. Restaurants are different in an important way: in Pakistan, sales tax on services, which includes restaurant services, is generally administered by the provinces rather than by FBR. So for most restaurants, the authority you deal with is a provincial revenue authority, and some of those run their own POS or e-invoicing schemes.
| Province | Authority | Link on this site |
|---|---|---|
| Federal (retail, Tier-1 retailers) | FBR | FBR POS |
| Punjab | Punjab Revenue Authority (PRA) | PRA POS |
| Sindh | Sindh Revenue Board (SRB) | SRB POS |
| Khyber Pakhtunkhwa | Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Revenue Authority (KPRA) | Ask the authority |
| Balochistan | Balochistan Revenue Authority (BRA) | Ask the authority |
Whether your outlet falls under a POS integration requirement depends on your category, size and province, and each authority publishes its own notices. Do not rely on a vendor or a blog post for this. Ask the authority, or your tax filer, which scheme covers you.
The general steps
Exact procedures differ by authority and change over time. The overall shape is usually the same.
- Make sure you are registered with the right authority for your activity and province, and that your registration details are current.
- Find out from the authority, or your tax filer, whether your outlet falls under a POS integration requirement and which scheme applies.
- Choose a POS or integrator that the authority recognises for that scheme. Ask for evidence, such as the authority's own list or a written confirmation.
- Complete the integration and testing steps the authority and the vendor set out.
- Check the receipt: it should show what the scheme requires, typically the invoice number and a QR code.
- Keep sales records and end-of-day reports organised, because your filer will still need them for returns.
What to ask any POS vendor
- Is the integration live today for my province, or is it planned? Ask them to show it working.
- Which authority has recognised or licensed your system, and can I see that in writing?
- What does the integration cost, and is it a one-time or monthly fee?
- What happens to sales when the internet is down? How are they reported later?
- What does the receipt print, and can I see a sample?
- Who do I call when an invoice fails to sync?
The last two questions matter more than they look. A restaurant cannot stop service because a tax service is slow, so offline behaviour and fast support are part of the real product.
What RestroAI does today
Direct integration with FBR, PRA, SRB, KPRA or BRA is not live in RestroAI. It is on the roadmap. If it is a requirement for you, ask us for the timeline before you sign up. We do not claim RestroAI is FBR-integrated or approved by any authority.
What RestroAI by Taiz does today is narrower and useful on its own:
- Receipts reserve space for an FBR invoice QR code, so the layout is ready for it.
- The POS keeps sales records by order, with cash and card tenders, so your filer can see what was sold.
- Terminal sessions close with Z reports you can hand to your tax filer.
- The POS keeps selling offline and syncs when the connection returns.
If your authority requires a live integration today, RestroAI is not yet the right choice for that outlet, and a vendor that holds the integration is. If your requirement is on a later date, or you mainly need good records for your filer while integration is built, talk to us. See the FBR POS, PRA POS and SRB POS pages for the current position.
Choosing a system when the rules are moving
Tax requirements shift, so avoid paying for a system that locks you into one. Look for monthly billing with no long contract, no setup fee, and records you can export. RestroAI charges PKR 15,000 per branch per month, with every feature included and no setup fee or commission, and you can cancel at the end of a paid period. Frequently asked questions
What is FBR POS integration?
FBR POS integration connects a retailer's point-of-sale system to the Federal Board of Revenue so each invoice is reported in real time, with an invoice number and QR code printed on the receipt. It is set out in FBR's Tier-1 retailer rules. Confirm current requirements with FBR.
Do restaurants need FBR POS integration?
It depends on your category, size and province. Sales tax on restaurant services is generally handled by provincial authorities such as PRA in Punjab and SRB in Sindh, and each has its own rules. Ask the relevant authority or your tax adviser which scheme covers your outlet.
Which authority do restaurants deal with for sales tax?
Usually the provincial authority: PRA in Punjab, SRB in Sindh, KPRA in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and BRA in Balochistan. FBR handles federal matters. Confirm which applies to you.
Is RestroAI FBR integrated?
No. RestroAI does not have a live FBR, PRA or SRB integration. Receipts reserve space for an FBR QR code, and sales records and Z reports are available for your tax filer. Ask for the roadmap timeline if integration is a requirement.
What should be printed on an FBR-integrated receipt?
The scheme generally requires an invoice number and a QR code on the receipt. The exact requirements are set by FBR or your provincial authority, so check the current rules with them.
Can I use RestroAI now and integrate later?
You can use RestroAI for POS, ordering and delivery today, and give your filer its sales records and Z reports. But if your authority requires live integration now, you need a system that already holds it. Ask RestroAI by Taiz for the timeline first.
